The Red JIB card is suitable for new hires, trainees and apprentices within the plumbing, pipe fitting and gas fitting industries. It grants these supervised workers and trainees access to carded areas of a worksite, allowing them to gain experience toward becoming a skilled operative.
Before you can gain a new Red JIB Card, you’ll have to have a safety certification. This could be:
The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test,
Having completed at least the Health and Safety Units of a level 2 or 3 NVQ, thought hey are not expected to have completed either the NVQ or SVQ,
The JIB-PMES touch screen health and safety test,
An approved one day safety course, such as the CCNSG Passport to Safety, Current Offshore Survival Card, or the FAS Safe Pass.
Your Red Apprentice JIB card is valid for up to five years. It can be renewed only once, for a further 5 years. After 5 to 10 years on a Red (Apprentice) card, the operative is expected to move on to an occupation-specific Blue or Gold card.
As the card may not be renewed a second time, trainees will be expected to qualify for a Blue or Green card after either five or ten years.
