What is the course?

The NPORS Vehicle Banksman Operations course is aimed at banksmen and signalers who are guiding and marshalling vehicles in loading decks and yards.

It covers the legal issues as well as the practical considerations that need to be taken into account to ensure that such vehicle manoeuvres are undertaken safely.

Course content

The course includes:

• Health & Safety legislation and other regulations
• The HSE’s film, “Dead Slow”
• The role of the driver
• The role of the banksman
• Issues arising when you reverse and manoeuvre vehicles
• Danger areas, hazard identification and risk assessments
• The recommended signaling procedures
• Personal protection equipment

How is the course taught and assessed?

The NPORS Vehicle Banksman Operations course takes one day to complete. The course is taught by an experienced professional and involves a classroom-based theory session as well as practical training. At the end of the course there is a multi-choice theory test and a practical assessment.

What qualification will I receive?

Upon successful completion of NPORS Vehicle Banksman Operations course you will receive a Certificate of Training and Safety Appreciation. You will also be entered onto a HSE approved database for three years.
