The IPAF Mobile Vertical/Mobile Boom Operator (3a+3b) course is aimed at people who use powered access. It is also suitable for people who supervise or manage powered access use.

The IPAF Mobile Vertical/Mobile Boom Operator (3a+3b) course is a one day course. It starts with an introduction and a pre-course theory test. As well as the theory there is practical training. The course ends with a theory test and a practical assessment.
People who successfully complete the IPAF Mobile Vertical/Mobile Boom Operator (3a+3b) course receive an IPAF Certificate and an IPAF Smart Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card. The PAL Card is valid for 5 years.
If you already have a PAL Card the Mobile Vertical (3a) and Mobile Boom (3b) categories will be added to your PAL Card and the expiry date of the card will remain the same.
Once you have been certified on the Mobile Vertical and Mobile Boom you upgrade to a PAL+ Card by taking the IPAF Advanced Course which is aimed at operators who work in higher risk or challenging environments.
