CPCS A04 Tower Crane

What is the course?

The CPCS A04 Tower Crane course has been developed to give applicants training in tower crane use in a thorough and methodical manner, utilising both practical and theoretical training.

Course Content

How to safely and productively operate the tower crane
Ascertain safe loading levels and capacity of crane
Response to recognised signals when controlling crane
Understanding maintenance and adjustments of equipment
Understanding of capabilities of crane and the safety precautions required
Operating safe-load indicators and warning devices
The effects of working radius and the lifting capacity of tower
Safe slinging, lifting gear and securely balancing the load
Understanding of statutory regulations and legal responsibilities relating to lifting equipment
Counterweights, working radius and shock loading

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

This course is taught and assessed through a combination of practical as well as theory examinations and lessons.

Who Should Take This Course?

This tower crane course is suitable for those individuals who have received no formal training on how to operate tower cranes. It is also ideal for those existing operators looking for a refresher course.

There are two different endorsements, specific to certain types of machinery:

A04A: Trolley Jib
A04B: Luffing Jib

What Qualification Will I Receive?

Upon completing this course, successful candidates will receive certification from the CITB National Construction College. A CPCS Red Trained Operator Card will also be awarded one CPCS Technical Tests have been successfully completed. National Construction College certificate.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test within two years of the course date. You must have a good understanding of both written and spoken English and be able to operate comfortably at heights, due to the nature of working with tower cranes.

What Can I Do Next?

Once the CPCS A04 Tower Crane course has been completed you may want to consider the Slinger/Signaller course, crane supervisor course, appointed person course, or study for the CPCS Blue Competent Operator card.
